Date with Jesus

A note from Cherrylemonade: every year people applying to schools around the world get asked the question, “if you can have dinner with anyone living or dead, who would it be?” Being someone with alot of time on my hands, and having chosen other options as my admition essays i’ve

decided, now on my own to answer that question. here’s what i’ve come up with.

There are many historical figures I admire from various areas of interests. Because of this it was very hard for me to pick only one. In the field of music there was everyone from Beethoven to Elton John. If I chose a politician there was a number of Kennedys, Clintons, and Washington.  I came up with hundreds of names and plenty of questions for each but when it came down to it, there was only one person in all of history that could answer any question. The person who has seen it all, done it all, and has been everywhere including hell. I have chosen the man who has always been there and always will be there- Jesus.

I would most defiantly pick his brain apart. I would start out at the beginning with questions like “So what’s it like to create out of nothing” or “Why did you give us free will if you knew (because you are all knowing) that we’d screw up.” I would move on to questions about his life and growing up the Son of God. I would also ask about heaven and who is in there. Then I would move on to the harder questions, the ones about the state of the world at large. I hope that he would assure me that everything would be all right and to not worry.

After that I would move to the most important part in my eyes- “are we born hating?” Every person who has been born hates, or at least feels superior to, others. The really odd part is we, ourselves, are hated and yet we continue to hate others. People have been discriminated against and even killed for their race, religion, gender, political beliefs, and sexual orientation. It’s not fair that an African American has to walk down the street scare that he may be shot, or that Muslims are blamed for September 11. It’s a wonder to me that women and men have existed for the same amount of time and couldn’t exist without each other but one is considered better than the other. I am sickened by the fact that even the president can be killed for speaking his mind. I just don’t understand how Jack and Jill can get married, raise children, and have the world’s blessing but Jack and Will can’t do the same. “So Jesus”, I would ask, “ What’s the deal?”

I am confident Jesus would answer my questions and calm my worries, which is why I would choose him as the one to dine with.
