Foo Fighters to McCain: you’re not my hero
The Foo Fighter wants Presidential Nominee John McCain to stop using their 1998 hit “My Hero”.
“The saddest thing about this is that `My Hero’ was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential,” the band said in a statement. “To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song.”
The song which was from the bands second album The Colour and the Shape, happens to be one of my favorite songs at the moment. My fondness for the song during its initial release was renewed 100 fold this summer when David Cook picked it as one of his song choices for the American Idols Live Tour. In a nod to the common man theme, Cook dedicated the song to his older brother, Adam, who you may recall is suffering from a brain tumor. Because of this, the story grabbed my attention.
How dare Senator McCain use this song without the Foo’s permission. And moreover, how dare he think that the song is relevant to him, a billionaire former POW.

I’ve always thought the song was about Kurt Cobain, personally.

Common theme regarding the McCain campaign:
They don’t freakin’ get it!!
I always thought “Friend of a Friend” from In Your Honor was about Cobain.
